18 Year Old Israeli Teen, Ben Arad--Salt of the Earth [1]

Oren Ziv of +972 Magazine has published an interview with the 18 year old conscientious objector, Ben Arad of Israel. He will be imprisoned for his refusal to serve in the war in Gaza that he contends will only perpetuate the cycle of violence. He will join the other intrepid youngsters, Tal Mitnick and Sophia Orr who are already imprisoned. Ben Arad says, “Israel’s destruction of the Gaza Strip is an unprecedented murder campaign not only against Hamas, but against the entire Palestinian people.” This reality “convinced him of the need to refuse.” He hails from a family whose members have all enlisted in the military. This young man is articulate, empathic and wise beyond his years. I truly believe that one day, he could be the one to lead Israel out of the darkness that the current regime perpetuates.
