PWB Peeps Open Thread: Johnny Appleseed Day [1]

John Chapman, nurseryman, missionary, traveler.

He spread apple trees to parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, West Virginia, and Ontario.

He wanted apples to flourish mostly for the making of cider.

He planted tree nurseries, built fences around them, and left them in the care of local partners who sold the seedlings.

He went barefoot by choice and wore old clothes, but was a successful businessman, ultimately owning about 1200 acres spread across three states.
