The President That "Squeaks" Gets the Grease [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-03-10 I don’t believe for one millisecond that the media is any less biased the day after Biden’s State of the Union Address on Thursday than it was before. But it illustrated what can be done when you’re the President and “squeak” in a way the corporate media cannot ignore you. While the corporate media has a built in bias against President Joe Biden, the Democrats, and the left in general, it doesn’t want the public to believe that they are. That is the opening that Biden just managed to blast through. Example of rope-a-dope. President Biden might have started his “squeaking” type strategy long ago, instead of playing mostly rope-a- dope Trump for the last three years. But now he’s finally taken the gloves off. Then V.P. Biden and Obama at a train stop. 2013. More Squeaking = More Coverage The media also has a short memory. So lots of frequent “squeaks” need to be made between now and election day. I can’t give you a definition of a “squeakable” media moment, that’s up to those that are formulating one, in this case mainly the President’s campaign staff and the President himself. Knowing the media will do it’s best not to report good things about Biden, it has to be a bit audacious or unusual. And sadly involving Trump in some fashion. But not the type of rants that Trump and Republicans are fond of. Rope-a-Trump had its Benefits but . . . Trump’s political appeal is a one-trick pony performance. Perhaps Biden did not want to feed the rage and violence the Republicans were trying to stimulate. Trump in particular was often busy trying to start riots and promote conflict and rage. Responding to fire with fire has both it’s upsides and down sides. Biden chose more of a rope-a-Trump strategy, seeing if he would punch himself out. But thanks largely to the 24/7 orchestrated media coverage, psycho mad-man Trump was kept alive before the country. Biden and his team decided to use the SOTU to present a President that had come out swinging and had finally taken the gloves off. I could spend a few paragraphs theorizing that the President might have started such a strategy some time ago, instead of playing mostly rope-a-Trump for the last three years, but that’s a debatable point. I understand, in hindsight, why Biden tempered his responses to Trump in the past. In any case, it’s now water under the bridge. We should wish Biden well, hoping that he can hold up to the obvious rigors that campaigning across most of the country for the next 6 months entails. He gives every sign that he can. We must also do our part, hold some massive demonstrations around the issues across the country, and work any way we can to get out the vote.
