[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-03-03 The group of resisters just below are standing in the middle of their town on a Saturday looking reasonable, approachable and asking people’s opinions. With a side line in tourist information, Ukraine updates and local directions they can continue their fiendish conspiracy undisturbed. First they home in on local issues, then they spread the word on what other locals think and, finally, they see what they can do to boost morale. It’s invitational, non-confrontational, issues-focused and with persistence changes minds. It’s also more fun than sitting at home fretting over the latest Twitter tantrums. Remainiacs conducting local polling in England. This poll identifies where people are short of information, so the Remainiacs can work on offering local answers. However, some will insist it’s necessary to go low, fight fire with fire, etc . . . Nazis, MAGA, RINOs and DINOs tend to be big on such approaches and I won’t deny making your activism a bit peppery can be a good thing. Nevertheless, there is a pile of science to indicate that winning people over gets results at the ballot box, and alliance and intersection wrecks fascism. Ah but I hear some alpha Tankies and early Jurassic DINOs rankling, as MAGA is an unshakeable mass of the irredeemably wicked, that will only respond to going Old Testament. Which begs the question — does any of that science turn into votes or impact on support for the far right. Most obviously it took a huge alliance to defeat Trump in 2020, but the divisions remain on a substantial scale. Thankfully across the Atlantic there are some clear signs many of those drawn into far right tribalism can and will step back from fascism. This is apparent in terms of consistent polling around Labour, which shows significant swings away from the policies of the far right. The classic Brexitometer, used to show local opinions to locals. In addition, we’ve just had a YouGov poll indicating that 58% of Tory voters in Scotland don’t plan on backing the Tories. That’s 58% of those willing to back Trump loving Johnston at some stage who have decided enough is enough. Remainiac Moodometer used to gauge basic mental health first aid needs among those impacted. What is going on there . . . it’s just into March and diaries are filling up fast. A long summer of many large peaceful marches, regular action/ GOTV days, civic cultural events, proportionate climate actions, music festivals, partying through the European Football Championships (BFD), and watching the Olympics lies ahead. Even Tay Tay is dropping in where a rapturous welcome awaits. Does any of this translate to the US, . . . the basis sure does as indicated on the final meme, which I picked up a while back. It details just how far common ground on issues reaches across party and media boundaries. And it follows that while some MAGA are deeply entrenched in Trump’s tribalism, there are plenty more open to ditching the far right over issues. In other words, MAGA is not an unassailable fascist mass, instead with many there is a messaging problem stoked by widespread fake news. Don’t get me wrong in terms of relative standings, there is a lot of Trump fatigue, the Dems have some good stuff to shout about, and many Dems would crawl over barbed wire and swim the Atlantic to get their vote in. You’re anything but down and out. However, you can in all likelihood leave Trump trailing with an enthusiastic and energetic grass roots effort that makes Dems look more like a workable future than more of the same.
