Digging a Hole and Filling it up Simultaneously [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-03-01 Daniel Boguslaw of the Intercept wrote an article titled, “Israel Used US Weapons to Destroy US Assets and Aid Projects in Gaza,” in May 19, 2022 to draw attention to the history of our counter-productive policy towards the Israel-Gaza conflict. He explains that “arms made in the USA and transferred to Israel were used by Israel to destroy US funded UNRWA schools, USAID projects and a Soft Drinks Factory in Israel’s May 2021 counter-reprisal in Gaza.” “The Israeli military attacked about 1,500 targets with air- and ground-launched munitions. The United Nations reported that Israeli attacks killed 260 people in Gaza, at least 129 of them civilians, including 66 children. Local authorities in Gaza said that 2,400 housing units were made uninhabitable, while over 50,000 units were damaged, and over 2,000 industrial, trade, and service facilities were destroyed or partially damaged.”www.hrw.org/...As Boguslaw writes, “more than 100 UNRWA facilities financed by the US to the tune of $150 million were damaged by Israel and required $1 million more to repair.” Read his article here: theintercept.com/... This sounds familiar because the destruction wrought by Israel’s current “Operation Iron Swords,” despite being several orders of magnitude greater, is in keeping with its indiscriminate bombing patterns in the past. What do we hope to achieve with our policy of unconditionally arming an Israeli regime that routinely uses our weapons to destroy and damage our aid projects in Gaza? The US taxpayer has been reduced to the proverbial hamster on the treadmill which keeps running, yet finds itself in the same spot, having made no progress. Meanwhile, the Gazans find themselves impoverished, limbless and/or dead and the Israeli civilians also die or live in fear of kidnapping, and death by rockets or terror incursions. There are some winners, however: “Lockheed Martin surged a bit more than 12% from Oct. 6 to Oct. 26, also benefiting from an Oct. 17 earnings beat. Northrop Grumman rallied almost 15% during that period. L3Harris is up about 8% since the Hamas attack, with most of its gains occurring on Oct. 9. General Dynamics also posted its largest gain on Oct. 9 and is up nearly 10%. RTX surged 4.8% from Oct. 6 to Oct. 23 after trading near its lowest level since February 2021. RTX stock also spiked following its Oct. 24 earnings beat, putting it ahead more than 14% since Oct. 6.”www.investors.com/....Our government is also harassing the House of Representatives to pass its military supplemental giving $14.1 billion more in weapons to our ally who has a “proven track record” of using force “judiciously” (sarcasm).
