Democrat uncommitted outperforms Williamson, while Nikki Haley outperforms Republican uncommitted [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-02-28 It’s no surprise that in yesterday’s Michigan primary, President Joe Biden (D) won on the Democrat side and multifaceted criminal Donald Trump (R) won on the Republican side. We can read a lot into how much they won by, however. Although 1.5% of the vote is yet to be counted, it is safe to say that President Biden has won more than 81% of the vote and earned 109 delegates, according to Bing (Google tells me much the same thing). Marianne Williamson. (AP Photo/Jose Juarez) Uncommitted is a distant second on the Democrats’ side with roughly 13%, followed by Marianne Williamson and Dean Phillips splitting the remaining 6% almost perfectly even. Williamson leads Phillips, but with the difference in counted votes between the two of them being exactly 0.3%, we can only guess which of the two will narrowly avert a last place finish. On the Republicans’ side, classified documents salesman Donald Trump won with more than 68%. Wonder how his wife “Mercedes” feels about that. It’s a better performance than his 37% in the Michigan 2016 primary performance (on the Democrats’ side Hillary Clinton was a close second to Bernie Sanders) but not as good as his 93% in the 2020 primary. Which of course however was a textbook incumbent advantage. Nikki Haley remains a thorn in Trump’s side, she won almost 27% of the votes counted so far and picked up four “at-large” delegates that Trump would have liked to add to his twelve. There are apparently 39 other Republican delegates who will be “allocated” later this week. I didn’t vote for Haley and wouldn’t vote for her in the general, but I’m glad she’s going on to Super Tuesday and I hope she keeps going after that. Hell, maybe she should try to be a write-in candidate in the general and siphon some votes off Trump. Republican uncommitted won 3% of the vote counted so far, with the remaining 1% or so divvied up among candidates who’ve already dropped out of the race: Christie, DeSantis, Hutchinson, Ramaswamy, listed here in alphabetical order rather than projected final vote totals. Oh, and wait, who’s this Ryan Binkley, with his commanding 0.2% lead over current last place Hutchinson? My guess is that he’s the answer to “But isn’t Donald Trump also too old to be president?” And more importantly, “Isn’t Trump way too cognitively impaired and too physically unfit compared to older men?” If I showed you a picture of Dean Phillips and Ryan Binkley side by side, you might not be able to tell which is which. However, Binkley might be jealous of Phillips’s showing in the Democratic primary, since Phillips cracked the 1% and 2% thresholds. According to Wikipedia, for what that’s worth, Binkley’s “an American pastor, businessman and politician” who has founded both a for-profit business and a church. Binkley’s still in the race, but probably not for long. What will probably happen to Binkley’s Wikipedia page adds insult to the injury of losing to uncommitted. In yesterday’s primary, voting Democrat uncommitted was much more meaningful than Republican uncommitted. A lot of Democrats have been dissatisfied with President Biden’s handling of the conflict in Gaza, and voting uncommitted was presented as the way to express that dissatisfaction. Meaning therefore “I would really like Biden except for this one issue.” So in a way, it could be said that Biden won 94% of the primary vote, whereas for Republicans uncommitted seems to have had the usual meaning of “I don’t like any of this party’s candidates.” Republicans already know Trump will lose the popular vote in the general election. But this time around they’re also worried he will lose the Electoral College, and they’re working on a plan to bypass the Electoral College if that vote doesn’t go their way. Averting a Trump dictatorship will require not just turning out all the sane voters in November, but also carefully watching out for Republicans’ dirty tricks.
