The Need for Careful, Clear, and Compelling Critics . . . [1]

. . . of drivel promoted by much of the mainstream media.

Too many citizens think the government is necessarily an enemy. It is not. Some government officials misbehave; all bureaucrats may act shortsightedly or prematurely. However, the solution is not to shackle or trash it, but to improve it. We have the vitality and quality of life we have because government provides mail service, education, transportation, and public utilities . . . and because it protects us from greedy, selfish members of our society.

Perhaps Kos could have a raft of columnists who systematically critique unthinking or ill-motivated attacks on government and seek to explain its contributions to our lives.

This may encourage more of us to serve and support thoughtful, decent elected officials and diligent government workers.
