Request for diary explaining the US Bail/Bond System and Judgment Penalty Calculations [1]

The current state of Trump’s legal penalties is and will continue to be a source of much discussion. There are a couple of ‘Trump Debt Counters’ running now (to various degrees of accuracy and presentation) that attempt to keep a live tally of what Trump owes the court, plus interest. There is confusion over how much Trump, personally, needs to put up himself, versus taking out a bond and paying interest on that. There are questions about whether the RNC or a crowd-sourced funding site can legally contribute the money.

To those of us who do not travel in these circles it would be helpful if someone who does explains how the process works, and how the calculations are made.

And on a similar topic, how is Steve Bannon still walking around free, instead of being sealed inside a 55-gallon hazmat drum?
