[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-02-23 The court ruling that a preserved embryo is a person gives rise to a host of questions, because persons have various rights and responsibilities and others may have duties in relation to a child. In just a few minutes of thought, the following occurred to me. 1. Do embryos get reported on US Census data? 2. Are they used in determining distribution in Federal programs based on population? 3. If the answer to the above is “yes” in Alabama, how is this fair to persons in other states shich do not define embryos as persons? 4. Can an embryo be claimed as a tax deduction? 5. After five years in storage, must an unimplanted embryo attend school? 6. Do centers that store frozen embryos have to meet requirements for child care centers—e.g. ration of staff to children, number of bathrooms, etc.? 7. After eighteen years of storage, must an embryo register for Selective Service? What is the penalty for not doing so (if at some point in the future this is enforced more vigorously)? 8. Are embryos used in calculations of household size for benefits that use calculations including this? I am sure there are many other questions that others willt hink of regarding this issue.
