Are Republicans Creating a National Security Hoax? [1]

This morning Mike Turner, the head of the house intelligence committee, told the press that there was a major national security threat involving Russia. He said it could jeopardize our military defense. He refused to give details, but was very excitable.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) delivered a prepared statement Wednesday aimed at reassuring Americans about a vague national security threat.

House Intelligence Committee chair Mike Turner (R-Ohio) earlier on Wednesday publicly asked President Joe Biden to declassify information relating to a “serious national security threat.”

After his statement to the press Mike Johnson stepped up to the microphone and proceeded to say he wanted the American people not to worry because he had everything under control and he was going to be in contact with President Biden. Then he dropped a bomb on the press by saying he had brought up this threat to President Biden a month ago implying that Biden has been sitting on this threat.

From The Hill:

Johnson said he sent a letter to the White House last month asking for a meeting with Biden “to discuss a serious national security issue that is classified,” which prompted Thursday’s meeting.

Okay. My first take on this is the MAGA republicans are using information from a normal security briefing to create a new scandal. Mike Johnson trying to calm the American people, President Biden not taking charge to inform Americans. All this to make President Biden look out of touch and weak for political purposes. Could they use this as more fodder for when Comer starts his new investigation into Hur’s report? Another impeachment hearing? A distraction from Trumps legal problems?

Hopefully, some in the press will take this with a skeptical eye and ask the right questions.
