Kitchen Table Kibitzing 2/3/24 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-02-03 Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who aren’t throwing pies at one another. So bring your stories, recipes, pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links to diaries or news stories that you think this community would appreciate. Or just drop by and tell us about your weather. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well. This morning’s sunrise seemed serene ...not as ominous as some recent sunrises... Last weekend temps were in the mid-70’s. Open windows and t-shirts. But Monday brought a week of mostly rain ...nothing heavy... just consistent. Even got a break yesterday ...despite talk of the incoming storms. Forecasters have been warning of this weekend’s storms predicting heavy rain to move into California’s central and south coast Friday night. x A marginal risk (15-30% chance) of severe weather is possible for residents of the Central Coast and portions of the South Bay on Sunday, February 4th For the rest of the Bay Area, thunderstorms remain possible on Sunday Make sure to stay up to date on the latest forecast #CAwx pic.twitter.com/y7OZ38PgNx — NWS Bay Area 🌉 (@NWSBayArea) February 3, 2024 I tend to look to young Dr. Swain during times like this. Welp… after checking the models this morning, Swain decided to post an unscheduled blog ...never a good sign. He is confident that the next few days will bring heavy rain with the heaviest in So Cal. Lake Tahoe and much of the Sierras will be impassable tomorrow into Monday with a much needed dump of snow ...likely measured in feet. The wind will be the biggest concern locally. The ground is already saturated… ”very strong wind gusts, lightning (and perhaps even a brief waterspout/coastal tornadic spin-up from about the Monterey Bay Area southward).” ...will surely bring down some trees here in the Santa Cruz Mtns. This will mean power outages and closed roads. Although I’m not expecting anything like the havoc of last winter when some communities were without power for weeks ...chaos is likely… especially Monday’s commute down hwy 17. Tonight we plan on dinner in Santa Cruz ...maybe the wharf. Rain should begin this afternoon with the heavy rain later tonight. Hopefully enough time to enjoy the beach and dinner as the storm comes ashore. Then race up home to settle in for the next day or so ...enjoying the storm as it rolls thru.
