Update/Movement in Avdiivka (counter-attack and good news) [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-01-28 This is to follow-up and likely close out my two previous diaries over the past week here and here. So, Ukraine has apparently successfully counter-attacked and driven the Russians back almost 2 km from the furthest leading edge of their attack. They are now almost back to their starting point with only about 300 meters to go. This threat to southern Avdiivka is therefore probably neutralized and the situation returns to the status quo ante!!! There is geolocated video (stills above) of Bradleys (of course) and other equipment plus dismounted Infantry in their assault on the Tsarska Ohata Hotel complex which is about the only structure down along the southern portion of that road through the wood. That complex is located where the red Xs are below. Word is that the assault was successful. Whether Russian troops were trapped and captured at the north end of that finger, I do not know. Southern Avdiivka The yellow line is the main supply route to Zenit, the anchor “fortress” of the S Avdiivka defense. The blue Xs represent the likely most forward edge of Russia’s Infantry advance during their attack a couple of days ago. The green was the “front line” before the Ukrainian counter-attack. The red is the “front line” after the Ukrainian counter-attack. You can see from the location of those blue Xs what a hurt this Russian position would have put on Zenit had they been able to maintain it. Russia still has a toehold on the north side of the railroad down south, but they would be wise simply to fall back to their previous prepared positions on the south side of that arc-shaped highway.
