No Nikki, we should not pardon Trump [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-01-03 (my 2 minute video on pardoning Trump) Well-known fence-straddler and racism-apologist Nikki Haley recently floated the idea of pardoning Trump if she wins the presidency. I can’t blame a gal for trying; I mean, she bled supporters and percentage points after refusing to say the Civil War was fought over slavery. I live in GA, in a deep red burb—I have heard the argument that Dah Civil Waw-r was fought over states’ rights, and by gum, some of those slaves were damn happy with their lot. One guy went so far as to speak of how Slaves were called “Night Crickets” by Plantation Owners because they sang as they worked in the evenings. Excuse me while I barf. Racism-apologists are gross People who vomit forth such trash never entirely understand my anger and disgust, calling me reactionary when I respond negatively. My own hubby, a born and raised Irish country boy, has used a variant of the same at one point or another. The reason you know he never pulled that Night Cricket shit is because he is still alive. That said, yeah, I ran into this so-called argument for years—so annoying, which is why I found Haley’s non-commital hemming and hawing especially egregious. Just when I felt maybe, just maybe, I could deal with Nikki Haley on the campaign trail, she stepped in it. She later cried that a Democrat plant tossed her a live one in an attempt to derail her momentum. Hunny Bunny, if a 7th-grade question can trip you up, you may not be ready for primetime. Enter the Trump Pardon Equation What I find weird is that Trump has said ten times worse than Nikki—shits his pants to boot—and he is still a front-runner for the Republican party. —ISM is a hellfuva drug. His popularity may be why she tried to lift her own once more by saying she would pardon Trump if she won the presidency. Daily Beast asked the perfect question in response: Why even bother running? “What’s in the best interest of the country is not to have an 80-year-old man sitting in jail that continues to divide our country,” Haley said just one day earlier in New Hampshire. “What’s in the best interest of our country is to pardon him so that we can move on as a country and no longer talk about him.” Excuse me, but Trump was indicted in four jurisdictions on 91 counts. Are we to assume that all of these counts were politically motivated, or otherwise not worth our time? Hello! Thank you, Daily Beast! The victimized not considered at all My biggest issue with any type of pardon is the question of justice. Pardon powers are supposed to help the innocent—to free the wrongly accused. To right a wrong. Pardons should not be used to help the guilty get away with, in some cases, literal rape and murder. How do we look Johnny Law in the eye again if it keeps excusing the people who victimize entire groups? Kill one man; you are a murderer—kill millions in an ill-executed war, and you are a President who gets pardoned. Seriously? We gave a pass to the Confederates, and they created race-driven, nationalistic-fueled causes that led to Neo-Nazis sitting in Congress. We gave a pass to Nixon, and now Republicans are so bold in their debauchery that they argue they can do whatever they want, however, they want, with complete immunity—full stop. What will we tell the world if Trump gets away with his crimes? No, I want to believe we have a working system of justice. As Glenn Kirshner often says—Justice Matters. Prove it by holding Trump accountable.
