If you don’t know me, I am an American Jew with some family and more friends, Arab and Jew, in Israel, and Muslim, Christian, and secular Palestinian friends in the the West Bank and here in the US.

I am not unbiased. When it comes to what side I support in the current conflict, I support the innocent.

In the news:

1. Per Kevin Drum, WaPo says little evidence of Hamas activity at Al-Shifa hospital

The evidence presented by the Israeli government falls short of showing that Hamas had been using the hospital as a command and control center, according to a Washington Post analysis of open-source visuals, satellite imagery and all of the publicly released IDF materials.... The Post’s analysis shows: The rooms connected to the tunnel network discovered by IDF troops showed no immediate evidence of military use by Hamas.

showed no immediate evidence of military use by Hamas. None of the five hospital buildings identified by Hagari appeared to be connected to the tunnel network.

There is no evidence that the tunnels could be accessed from inside hospital wards.

This seems like it should be a big deal.

2. Entire Gaza population facing hunger crisis, famine risk: UN-backed report

The proportion of households affected by acute food insecurity is largest ever recorded globally, the report says.

Gawd. It just keeps getting worse.

3. Israel's Arab minority feels closer to country in war, poll finds

The Gaza war has dramatically increased the sense of solidarity with Israel among its 21% Arab minority, who often identify as Palestinian and have long complained of discrimination by the state, a poll published on Friday found. Asked if they feel part of the country, 70% of Arab citizens polled said "yes", up from 48% in June, the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI) said, describing it as the highest finding for the sector since it began such surveys 20 years ago.

That is, or rather, was very interesting. The poll is from last month. In case you’re wondering, the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI) is legit.
