Me thinks there is a method to Biden's campaign madness [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-11-07 I have been asking myself, “When are the Democrats going to take the gloves off and start fighting back”. The suspect Poll released by the Times this week has done nothing but enforce my anxiety and raise it to the code-red level. Every day, I watch MSNBC and see commercials extolling how Biden has lowered the price of insulin, created more jobs, and is building new infrastructure. Apparently, these ads are not having the desired results and obviously running them on MSNBC is in reality, preaching to the choir. If they were running of Fox, they may be more effective, but Fox probably will not run them. Why aren’t the President and his campaign running commercials showing Trump, falling down a ramp, calling for the end of the Constitution, admitting he took classified documents, committed fraud in his business, and sexually molested and defamed a woman? Or, that he thinks he is running against Obama, and that Biden will lead us into WWII and that Orban is the President of Turkey? Well, I have a theory and if it is true, it makes all the sense in the world. The Democrats want Trump to be the GOP nominee. If Polls are showing Trump, with all the charges against him, and his lack of any common sense, neck and neck with Biden, how much worse could it be against a candidate without the baggage the Trump carries and the existential panic that Trump invokes among progressives and moderates. I believe Biden can and will beat Trump, but I am not confident that he could beat a Haley or DeSantis. I think that when Trump has secured the nomination, then, and only then, will Biden and the Democrats release an all-out assault on Trump’s character and fitness for office. There will be ads featuring non-political celebrities and respected leaders attacking Trump full on. That combined with the trials where he will be the defendant, will make for a very difficult run up to the election for him. We can almost guarantee that he will refuse to participate in any Presidential debate with Biden. Biden will make Trump look like the one with age related mental decline. The only thing Trump can rely on is his base which is about 35% of the electorate. I cannot see anyone who voted for Biden in 2020, deciding, after all we know now, that Trump is now their man. And I would hope that anyone who has an existential fear of a second Trump term, would not be dumb enough to vote for a third-party candidate. I am a little concerned that Biden may lose a significant number of Muslim votes in places like Michigan which could make a big difference in the result. I think Biden can counter that by showing that it was Trump who supported Netanyahu in moving the Israeli Capital to Jerusalem and began the Abraham Accord under Son-in-law Kushner which pushed Saudi Arabia to recognize Israel at the expense of the Palestinians. I also feel that Trump may lose a lot of support of Jews, many of whom voted for him because they felt he was more Pro-Israel than Obama and Biden were doing Obama’s administration. Just run the tape, in heavily Jewish areas, of Trump talking about how strong and smart Hamas (Hummus) and Hezbollah are. Play tapes over and over again in states with large military bases of Trump referring to people who fought as fools and losers. And the Abortion Issue will dominate the airwaves especially in and around large college campuses. But for now, Biden and the DNC are keeping their powder dry. It makes no sense to run up a big score in the first half and leave nothing in the tank to play offense in the second half. It does not matter what minds you can change in November of 2023. They can always change back. It makes a big difference, what minds you can change in September and October of 2024. For now, I am going to take several deep breaths and try to relax for the next 6 to 8 months and save my anxiety for the period between the RNC convention and election day.
