From poison kitchen: This comment by Robert Norman in Joan McCarter’s diary Military leaders speak out to push Tuberville on nominations: “Joint Chiefs speaking out like this is all but unprecedented in my lifetime. Joint Chiefs stay far away from politics. That they are speaking out about this issue is a BFD! The only other instance I am aware of is when George Bush The Lesser publicly proposed that the nation let the military leadership decide when to go to war. Individually and jointly the Joint Chiefs said in essence civilians decide when to go to war or not, and we in the military will do our best to do as ordered no matter how foolish the order. Only Republicans have done things so foolish and ill-advised that the Joint Chiefs have felt the situation so dire, so important, so critical that they had no choice but to speak out. This is a BFD. This was an agonizing situation for them and painful to act on their decision. with Bush it was merely a critical teaching moment and no choice but to immediately speak out.” [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/9/6/2191906/-Top-Comments-Open-Thread Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
