Street Prophets Coffee Hour [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-06-03 Welcome to the Street Prophets Coffee Hour, where politics meets up with religion, art, nature, and life. Come in, take a cuppa and a cookie (or three!) and join us. I’ve been working on a project with the historian who does my research in Scotland, and in the process, she found a huge number of old photos and drawings of Edinburgh, Glasgow, and other cities in Scotland. We can’t use them all, but it’s a shame that they aren’t given a wider audience, so here are some. These will be mostly street scenes since that’s what we’re aiming for. Bridgegate Bell Street fae High Street Glasgow Cathedral and Archbishop’s Palace Old Cross of Glasgow High Street and Town Hall, Dundee John Knox’s House, Edinburgh Cottages in Stockwell Street Cottages in High Street Ballantyne’s Close, Grassmarket, 1850 The Fiddler’s Close, No 75 High Street Cleared away in the course of the City Improvements in 1878. The Clyde at STockwell Bridge We’re going through literally hundreds of drawings and photographs pre-20th Century. Most of the ones here are from Glasgow, but you’ll see a couple from other cities. The Clyde, for instance, runs through Glasgow. If you want to see what it looks like today, Jenny took a day-long tour by boat and has a video, backed by music from our favorite Scottish fiddler, Paul Burns. You can listen to some more of his works at the link. Most of them are just a couple of minutes long. (Pay special attention to the one at the bottom of the page, with the slider—and its dedication!) Waverly Trip Doon the Water 2023 I sing along every time “Flow Gently, Sweet Afton” comes along. It’s about an hour long but very pretty.
