ORCA POD

There are an estimated 100, 000 Orcas worldwide ( Pacific Northwest, Soviet Union, Greenland, and Japan. Orca is the largest member of the Dolphin family. They feed on fish 🐠, seal 🦭, sea lion. Orca weighs about 8000 kilograms, has he largest dorsal fin of any whale.

Why Pacific Northwest is seeing a decline on the number of ORCA?

Carbon dioxide is changing the chemistry of oceans.

A study conducted by Professor Langdon Chris ( University of Miami) who collected records on pH of oceans 🌊 before industrial Revolution was 8.2 ( pH 7 is neutral) which is slightly basic. Now it is about 8.1 and falling.

Coastal water is a little acidic, but decreasing of the pH is causing a huge shift in the marine communities. In particular, orca prefers colder water that’s why they travel toward North or pole regions( Arctic & Antarctica).
