Kevin McCarthy has fresh concessions

Still warm from the oven

He hopes to woo reluctant chamber mates

To show a him a little lovin’.

A wide range of folks are to be found

Within the Republican caucus.

Some of them are moribund

And some of them are raucous.

All of this has little to do with policy

Or taking care of their constituents

It’s both transactional and performative

For an audience which shows little sense.

I wish I didn’t have to be so blunt

I’ve tried to understand and empathize.

But Mom told me to always tell the truth

Even when others propagate lies.

Biden didn’t lose the election.

January 6 was an insurrection.

In private many told the truth

In public they went a different direction.

McCarthy’s apparent willingness

To agree to whatever the hold-outs ask

Won’t compromise his integrity since

Locating it remains an impossible task.
