Full disclosure: I posted this as a comment to the FP Post earlier, but I was so PO’ ed by the belated release of the Meadow’s texts that I had to post as a Diary to vent. I have one over arching question ( and a few sub-questions): Why Are We Just Learning About This Now (Post-Election)? Some Sub-Questions: 1. Did TPM have this information before the election and sat on it? Answer: Probably not, because I can’t see Josh sitting on it, to benefit the GOP in the mid-terms. 2. Why did the January 6 Committee, who had these texts for months before the election, not provide them to voters? Answer: I have no idea, but there are two possibilities. One, Cheney and/or Kinsinger wanted to protect certain House members from their voters for purely Party political reasons; or Two, Democrats on the Committee wanted to “play fair” and not officially release or let a Staffer leak the texts before the election where they would be accused of playing politics. I have no idea which it was, or if it was a combination of both. Part of me thinks it was Cheney who has been reported to being adamant about keeping the Committee focused on Trump and not her fellow House Republicans. But on the other hand these are the same House Republicans that stripped of her leadership post and supported her opponent in the GOP Primary. So her motive for protecting them baffles me. On the other hand if it was Democrats on the Committee who decided to withhold these texts from voters, SHAME ON THEM! Releasing this information on 34 House Republicans a month or two before the election could have resulted in holding onto the House majority. Yes, some of the crazies in far right Districts may have benefited from the pre-election release by further inspiring their MAGA base. But Independent voters and a few traditional Republicans might have been inspired to vote for the Democrats by this information and flip some of these seats. After all, we only needed 5 out of the 34 to hold onto the House. Don’t you think if the shoe was on the other foot, Republicans would have released such information on Democrats (pre-election) in a heartbeat! Why is it our side always plays 100% by the political “rules”, while the other side breaks them all the time so as to gain political advantage? Even if you credit Democrats playing within the political “rules”, why is it right for them to keep such information from voters? Don’t voters have the right to know about the candidates they will be voting for? IT’S INFURIATING! I know some of these texts were out in the open pre-election, but the vast majority were not disclosed until now. Please feel free to speculate in comments as to why?
