Declaration of Malfeasance [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2022-11-16 Brave signers America’s Declaration of Independence accused England’s King George III of a multitude of insupportable actions, which were often instigated and carried out by ministers of his government. Below I quote and paraphrase that sacred document to set forth the high crimes and misdemeanors of the 45th president of the United States. The difference is that Donald J. Trump did these things himself. The term of the former president and the subsequent months comprise a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of outright tyranny. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world. He has refused his assent to laws the most wholesome and necessary for the public good. He has forbidden his loyalists to pass and enforce laws of immediate and pressing importance, and has punished those who vote to do so. He has repeatedly insulted duly elected representatives for opposing his assaults on the rights of the people, and for voicing alternatives to his proposals. He has refused to respect the rights and proposals of an opposing party, the country remaining in the meantime exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without and convulsions within. He has endeavored to homogenize the population, impeding the laws for naturalization of foreigners, blocking migrations hither, and fomenting enmity between ethnic and religious groups. He has obstructed the administration of justice by elevating to our judiciary, including the Supreme Court, persons who are unqualified or of dubious character. He has repeatedly expressed admiration for and support of dictators, yet scorned and ridiculed members of our defense forces; He has used military force against peacefully assembled citizens. He has attempted to render the military independent of and superior to the civil power and to make it an instrument of his unlawful ends. He has combined with others to subject us to actions abhorrent to decent citizens: Uttering egregious falsehoods that endanger the lives of citizens; Defying lawfully issued legal instruments; Inciting and defending racial hatred; Striving to repeal the laboriously gained rights of women and others; Appointing unqualified individuals to important posts, including the cabinet; Soliciting false testimony from a foreign leader and withholding duly appropriated aid funds in attempts to secure it. He has waged war on us by preventing legally constituted authorities from defending the Capitol from violent attack, and by undoing healthful laws intended to preserve our lands, air, and waters. He has plundered our purses, ravaged our laws, and, by denying the existence of a perilous plague, destroyed the lives of many people. He has incited domestic insurrections among us and combined in secret with others to overturn the most sacred principles of our republic. In every stage of these transgressions, our repeated objections have been answered only by repeated injuries. A president whose character is thus marked by every act which defines a tyrant is unfit to be the ruler of a free people. In 1866, the denunciation of a sitting American president was made in equally unsparing terms. Andrew Johnson was the subject of eleven articles of impeachment, of which the tenth forms the model for the following declarations. Donald Trump, 45th President of the United States, unmindful of the high duties and dignity of his office and of the harmony and courtesies which ought to exist between the executive and legislative branches, did attempt to bring into disgrace, ridicule, hatred, and contempt the Congress of the United States and the several branches thereof. He acted repeatedly to excite odium and resentment against Congress and the laws it has constitutionally enacted. Openly and publicly, and before diverse assemblages of the citizens of the United States, he delivered intemperate, inflammatory and scandalous harangues, uttering bitter menaces against Congress and the laws of the United States, inciting the cries and jeers of the multitudes then assembled and making threats against elected officials and others. In an attempt to retain the office of the presidency after indisputably losing both popular and electoral votes, he incited an armed mob to attack Congress then in session, in furtherance of his campaign to prevent the lawful and constitutionally protected peaceful transfer of power. We, therefore, citizens of these United States, do declare that Donald J. Trump is guilty of Treason and must be indicted and tried for the same. Linda K.
