Another Giant Blunder(R) [1]

While the republicans are stumbling over themselves trying to find new ways to wreck their election prospects, here is one more.

They won’t debate. Most recently, Ron Desantis refuses to face up to Charlie Crist. Our fearless former leader has already said he would not debate.

I can see why this would be their preference. They have no presentable agenda that they are willing to share with the public. They didn’t offer a platform in 2020, recommending we use “the one from last time.” They are in full stealth mode.

Assuming power, their agenda would be well defined among them, but the plan seems to be to keep it secret until it would be too late. However, the occasional leaks and revelations of their wish list were unavoidable. From what the polls are showing, they are also hugely unpopular. Striking out in reality, the arrows in their quiver have shrunk down to inciting rage and resentment.

They have offered the Democrats a tool of great value. Consider the following format: The stage has two podiums, one with the Democratic candidate, the other with a TV monitor. A carefully selected clip appears, showing the republican candidate expressing his true beliefs without all the side stepping, sugarcoating, and obfuscation possible in a debate. These clips are plentiful. Then the Democrat responds and without interruption demolishes the opponent’s statement and presents the Democratic alternative.

You might think that this allows the Democrats to define fully the opposition, but really the republicans have defined themselves. All the Democrats need do is to present it.
