Election results in my neck of the woods - The ups and downs in Florida [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2022-08-23 Yeah, so Crist won. The Democratic party at a state level here is stagnating in disarray, and so we got Crist. But guess what. Val Demings KICKED ASS. While I don’t expect Crist to win, I think Demings has a real chance, which makes sense because Demings is the REAL DEAL and Crist just likes to run for office. DeSantis was always gonna be super hard to beat, and I don’t know if he can be beat by a Democrat in Florida this year no matter who runs. To give Crist a break, I don’t think Fried could beat him either unless Demings has Wonder Woman coat tails. She might, but I might win the lottery, too. Meanwhile, on the home front, I’m happy to announce that the progressive candidate for county commission won by a landslide and three of the four progressive school board candidates kicked ass. The fourth is still in the game, being down by 2, but I can’t tell how many precincts have reported. Also, in the Gainesville mayor race, which I can’t vote in because I live two blocks outside the city limit, the person leading the nine person race is a progressive whom I’ve worked with on hard core issues, a man I know to have great integrity and who’ll do a great job if he becomes mayor. So all in all, the message I want to send to those of you who may be bumming on Florida, Val Demings is fantastic and she deserves anyone’s support who’s looking to increase our lead in the Senate. Also, in my pretty blue island in the middle of the state, there was some worry that we were moving right. NOPE. We are solidly progressive, and the ladies who were poll working today, yes they were all ladies which begs the question where are the men, told me that the early vote turnout was higher than total turnout usually is for off-year primary elections, and that the in-person traffic had been steady. That bodes well for us around here in November. Would love to hear from y’all in other parts of the state how you think it’s going for you. Go VAL!!!
