For instance, about the founding there’s this from 1776: And The Schuyler Sisters from Hamilton: In the more immediate past, there’s the white, rural, dream-America being sold to a community by a con artist who uses manufactured fear and a whole raft of dog whistles to make the suckers bite. From The Music Man: And a start at examining what the U.S. actually stands for in the middle of a war, from South Pacific (sorry, the stage take is better than the movie on this one): What do movies say about what’s to come? For the future, we step outside of the realm of musicals (lots of musicals about America). First, from the original Planet of the Apes: Silent Running is, unfortunately mostly forgotten now. The mad scientist trope is strong in this one, and the idea that human remodeling of the world would actually work as intended now seems laughable : Okay, we’ve gotta end on something happier. Wall-E should do it.
