Over 80 Organizations Lead Letter to Biden-Harris Administration: We Will Organize Against Harmful Senate Border Bill Now and in the Future [1]

Washington D.C. – Today, 83 national, international, state and local organizations – led by United We Dream and including Amnesty International USA, Bend the Arc: Jewish Action Pittsburgh, Connecticut Students for a Dream, Living United for Change in Arizona (LUCHA), #Welcome with Dignity coalition, Woori Juntos, the Working Families Party and many more – sent a letter to President Biden and Vice President Harris voicing their strong opposition to the Border Act of 2024.

In their letter, the coalition of organizations representing Black, brown, immigrant, Indigenous and working class communities across the country, made it clear they will organize against this bill and any other harmful version of it now and in the future should Congress bring it back for a vote.

Bruna Sollod, Senior Political Director of United We Dream, said:

“Immigrant young people and allies know the violent reality that awaits our communities if this harmful border bill or anything resembling it were to be passed. Bills like this mean more families will be brutally separated, more people will languish in detention centers, including families, and more will be turned away at the border simply for seeking safety.

Still, over the past few weeks, elected officials have touted this violent bill as a reasonable piece of policy, worthy of another chance for a vote in Congress. This couldn’t be further from the truth and our organizations are making it clear to the Biden-Harris administration that putting one group of people’s lives at risk will never be acceptable “trade-offs” for granting relief for a few. We’re ready to organize against any effort – now or in the future – that aims to inflict harm against any of our people.
