After a record-breaking weekend, cooler temperatures and rain chances are expected [1] [] Date: 2023-09-10 Temperatures at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport reached 112 degrees on Sunday, which broke the daily record of 111 degrees, last set in 1990. After a record-breaking weekend, with temperatures reaching above 110 degrees for 55 days, heat advisories are expected to end Sunday at 8 p.m. A record was previously set in 2020 with 53 days of temperatures hotter than 110 degrees. Starting Monday, the highs are expected to drop to the lower 100s for the week, bringing the state closer to the month’s average temperature. “The weather pattern is going to change a little bit so going in early portions to the middle parts of this upcoming week, as a result of some moisture pushing into the region. So we're going to have some higher chances for showers and thunderstorms across the region, that’s going to peak on Tuesday,” meteorologist Alex Young told The Arizona Republic. On Tuesday, chances for rain were around 20-30%, but after that temperatures were expected to rise a few degrees above normal.September is the last month of Arizona’s monsoon, and this year, the end of the driest monsoon on record, according to Young.Phoenix has officially recorded .13 inches of rain. For reference, the current driest monsoon on record was in 1924, with .35 inches recorded.“Looking at the extended forecast, it doesn't look like they are (the storms) going to have much chance of redeveloping until probably sometime next week. At this point, by the looks of it, if we're going to be anywhere near our normal for the month, it's gonna have to happen in the last couple of weeks of September,” said Young.Although rain chances were slight for September, temperatures at and above 110 degrees were expected to end Sunday.
