UK pub density map [1] ['Rob Beschizza'] Date: 2026-08-10 Nearest Pint is an interactive map of Britain showing pub density by parliamentary constituency, with each color-coded according to the number of pubs per 10,000 drinkers, which is to say, the population. At the top of the chart is Liverpool Riverside, with 23.73 pubs for every 10,000 people, closely followed by the Cities of London and Westminster, with 21.7 pubs per 10,000 people, and Manchester (21.6), then Bristol, Edinburgh and Brighton, about 21 per 10k. The driest constituency, at least by pub count, is East Renfrewshire in Scotland (which only has 13 pubs for its 95,000 residents, but borders pub-dense suburbs of Glasgow like Paisley and East Kilbride—I wonder how the map may echo gerrymandering, religious concentration, etc? UPDATE: East Renfrewshire's lack of pubs has long been a matter of discussion: "People there are conservative with a small C," he says. "They don't like pubs."). East Ham in London (where I once lived) has similar few pubs (.7 per 10k), but it's small and densely populated and there are certainly echoes of postwar pub policies in the area. You can zoom in to see where the pubs are, the name and address, but not the drink menu. The map is made using Thunderforest ("Thoughtfully tailored maps for web & app developers") and data from OpenStreetMap. Pub data is sourced from the Food Hygiene Rating Service (FHRS) via GetTheData Open Pubs, which lists all premises registered as pubs, bars and nightclubs across England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland uses a separate food hygiene scheme and has been excluded. Constituency boundaries are the Westminster Parliamentary Constituencies (July 2024) from the ONS Open Geography Portal, reflecting the boundaries used at the 2024 General Election. Population data is from the 2021 Census for England and Wales, and mid-2021 population estimates for Scotland, mapped to the 2024 constituency boundaries.
