------------------------------
Recently I got a new workstation. Quite a beefy box with 32 GB of
RAM, quite a lot of storage, and lots of cores. I need this for aud
production, where there's non-linear editing of lots of tracks, and
lots of VST plugins that will all have to run simultaneously. I opt
for a Ryzen 7 2600X, with 8 cores and a whopping 16 threads.
I've heard quite a few bad things about AMD, but because Ryzen is
firstly a new architecture, and lots of people were saying good
things about it, I decided to go for it as my next CPU.
I will have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, single co
a mid-range Intel chip will outrun it, but when you start
multithreading, this thing leaves the Intel chips in the dust, and
also for a very reasonable price. The TDP is also quite reasonable
compared to an intel chip. Yes, it's slightly higher, but not so mu
to assume you have a new space heater.
I'm happy. :)
Until the next phlog!
