Subject: mwm configuration problem

Summary: window group stacking

MWM seems to keep stacking order strict within a group. In other words,
suppose you have a tree of popups; if you select a leaf popup, mwm brings
the entire left side or the right side of the tree all the way up to the
parent shell. A popup also cannot go behind its parent. Is this behaviour
configurable? I think most window managers make it arbitrary (e.g. DXWM).
Is there a way to disable this feature?
