Those volumes are not out of favor, but they are out-of-date by a
decade and a half, not to mention the use a prehistoric notation to illustrate
(and I use the term loosely) some of the algorithms. Actually, exhaustive
math and detail are the things that make the boring "mix" scraps almost
tolerable.
