Lampshells very close in appearance to modern Lingula are found in
the Burgess Shale (Cambrian). Whether or not they're put into a
different genus is in part a matter of interpretation, but certainly
that morphology has been very conservative. Their habitat (muddy
bottom of shallow sea) has also been around for a long time, probably
little changed in physical aspects.
