Sure, you can do it with the SoundEditor program.  In fact, my housemate & I
did that a few weeks ago on the last part of the "Purple Rain" album by Prince
(one of his records, not mine!)

We just held the microphone from my cube in front of the stereo speaker.
Pretty cheesy, but it recorded well enough for the purpose.
