Dear Mr. Wheeler,

Except for your tendency to proselytize, I thought your description of
being in the presence of an enlightened person was very good. You're
right, the words don't matter much, the experience is so convincing. I
had similar experiences twice in Japan meeting with two zen roshis over
a long period of time. As a life-long skeptic and empirical kind of person
who only had an academic interest in zen, and buddhism in general, a few
exchanges with the real thing and it can all of a sudden become so self-
evident.
