Another appripriate benchmark for many real-time systems is the
Hartstone suite, which measures (generally speaking) real-time
responsiveness of a multi-tasking OS. The load for tasks in Hartstone
is the Whetstone benchmark. It certainly has turned out to be
an excellent test and benchmark for our Ada tasking kernel.

Hartstone has been written in portable Ada, and is being adapted
by some folks (or so I hear) to run on real-time kernels. It was
developed at CMU's SEI for the Real-Time Embedded Systems Testbed
Project.

Ask for document CMU/SEI-89-TR-23 for an excellent overview.
