just because you have an account on uunet or PSI or some other commercial
connection, does not guarantee you access to any facilities on the internet.

it buys you the right to demand service from your connection.

but not beyond.

BITFTP@pucc.princeton.edu is run by Princeton, not uunet, not PSI.

other services like the NIC and the listservers are run by other organizations.

if you want BITFTP style service, demand it from the people you pay money to.

you cannot demand service from people that are not responsible to you.
