Hello --
I use a system consisting of a 386-16, an ATI Wonder VGA card and a
ZCM 1490-Z monitor.
A few months after I installed the system, it started booting up (cold)
with a broken-up monitor image. Characters appeared much larger and had
a very crude, dot-matrix-like definition, as if every other pixel were
removed. After 2, 3, 4...etc. tries at re-booting, the screen appeared
normal. The VGA card was a replacement for an older EGA card which had
come with the machine. I replaced the VGA card with the EGA and the prob-
lem went away. The VGA card was still under warranty, so I sent it back
for repair. They said yes, indeed, they found an error when they tested
it. When it came back, there seemed to be a momentary improvement but now
I am back where I started, only worse. Another problem is that when I
use a "white" screen, as I do now, it flickers between white and light
yellow. At the moment, I can't switch back to the EGA because I need the
mouse for important work.

Has anyone had a similar experience and if yes, was there a fix?

Thanks --
         Peter
