I'm not buying a NeXT for two reasons, one good and one bad:

  1. NeXT has a severe vaporware problem. Applications are not appearing
rapidly enough to justify my making the jump, though there is better
value in the hardware. If I were doing development NeXT would be my
choice, but I rely on applications. There is not really a satisfactory
substitute for MacDraw, for example, on the NeXT, and I need that.
Mac applications appeared much more rapidly in the beginning.

  2. I have the DOS-inertia syndrome, Part II. The same disease which kept
less adventurous MS-DOS users from converting to the clearly superior
Macintosh keeps me now from jumping to NeXT. I have a large (personal)
investment in Macintosh hardware and software, over $7,000. Its market
value used is negligible, so I am throwing C$3,500 good money after it
to buy my new LC (yes, that's what a reasonably equipped* LC costs at a
university in Canada, including all taxes). *10 Mbytes RAM, 105 Mbytes
     HD, and Apple monochrome monitor.

On a lighter note, I'll share with you a response I got to my last posting:

It's hard to please those guys, even when you buy their stuff!
