Elm provides a mechanism to do just this. When you configure Elm you have
the option of automaitically expanding local user's name when they are
typed in. Thus, when the user types in:

   To: mmuegel

You get a little status line that says:

   To: Michael S. Muegel

So if you typed wrong it will not expand it and it will just print the 
incorrect login-id and you know you screwed up!
