I did find out that .uucp is a "fake" domain, and thus cannot have
subdomains.  The problem was caused by one of the sites that I feed
assuming otherwise and sending out stuff from user@gallifrey.cynic.uucp.  
I have informed him of this and fixed the problem.  Incidently, I also
figured out how to fix my smail problem and learned a lot about
domains and internet mail in the process.  Thanks to all who helped.
