It's been suggested to me informally that this newsgroup is not
fulfilling its potential, or meeting the perceived need for a
relatively noise-free channel in which UW news and announcements
can be conveyed.

I am quite open to changing its style and orientation, but cannot
usefully do that without advice and input. The group was created
in a hurry, without wide consultation, and its moderation is done
in odd moments. Neither fact is conducive to a great communication
channel.

Would it be useful to have a much larger volume of material here?

What *would* be useful?

Replies either to this userid or to CREDMOND @ WATDCS please.
