I am looking at applications of NN in network engineering, control
and management. 

I would be grateful for any references as well as suggestions to
solve the following problems:

1. Shortest path between two nodes in a network with a metric which
   is a function of the distance, link capacity, transmission load 
   distribution, priority of the data to send, etc.

   I suspect a Hopfield type network would be used, but the question is
   how I determine the right energy function (the best would be in
   an automatic way).

2. Network expansion by adding a link and/or a node. I would like my
   NN to indicate the location of the expansion and its capacity parameters. 
   The decision should be based on the current and planned traffic load.

3. I guess that a general problem would be: how do I translate a given 
   function to an energy function of a certain NN (and to the NN 
   architecture).


I have found several papers on the subject. There are several papers by
Hiramatsu from NTT which are particularily interesting.
