I would note that the code in question, in both the original filesize-limit
discussion and the more general thread that has come out of it, without any
possible question *IS* widely usable.  The sheer number and variety of
systems running it establish that quite firmly.  There is no "should" about
it, despite our occasional unwillingness to accommodate others' bungling.
