Thanks for all who helps me, including those who might have sent message
to me but it did not arrive here.

Two solutions: 1) ftp executables, from godzilla.cgl.rmit.oz.au
               2) patch the original GNU Emacs 18.55.1

I used the second option.  The patch file came from Randy Herber
(herber@fnalf.fnal.gov), and it turned out successful.  So if any of you
would like a copy of this patch file, please tell me, or ask Randy
Herber.

I totally agree in the idea of maintaining executables on SGI's sites.
It would save us so much trouble.
