Subject: Commodore's Government Contract
Organization: Case Western Reserve University

In the August AmigaWorld I saw the Following: "The US Treasury
Department's award of a five-year Departmental Microcomputer Acquisition
Contract II to Sears Business Systems spells success for key subcontractor
Commodore. The estimated $400 million deal is Commodore's first victory in
the federal marketplace. CBM, which established an office in Washington,
D.C., just last Sept., will offer 68030-based Amiga workstations under the
agreement." I don't know much about how government contracts work, does
this mean the entire $400 million will be used to buy Amigas? That would
come out to about 100,000 amigas running business applications in gov.
offices. I would think this would really spur the development of some
mainstream business programs for the Amiga. Anyone have any comments about
the ramifications to the Amiga user community as a result of this and
future contracts?
