While OSUs commmitment to unix support is clearly more consistant
than UofMs, Peter is correct in noting a single point of failure is
not a good way of doing things. A2 has been thru several cycles of
feast and famine, and those cycles stopped only when we went to
   multiple sources of support.

Steve, what you really mean is that once some sites that used to be
uucp sites paid their $$$$ and got on the internet for real, things
got better. I'd point to iti, Ocwin, now GM Research as being key
additions. Sites which once were a cost to support at UM are now
completely autonomous and able to provide services to others. Unless
U of Michigan units start to try to do cost recovery for uucp services
(and thus start to throw scarce unix expertise at it), I suspect the
big growth in state-wide connectivity will be dedicated lines for IP
traffic to former UUCP-only sites.
