PDS Home Page ============= On February 7, 1999, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) successfully launched the STARDUST spacecraft. STARDUST is the first ever US mission devoted to the return of extraterrestrial matter collected from outside the orbit of the Moon and aims to bring cometary material and interstellar dust back to Earth after its rendezvous with the comet Wild 2 in January 2004. Visitors to the site can monitor the progress of STARDUST, read about the plans and objectives of the mission, and learn more about the science behind comet-chasing.
