The Ocean Research Institute (ORI), located at the University of
Tokyo, was founded in 1962 to promote the study of the marine
habitat. The Japanese, like many other Asian countries, rely
heavily on the ocean's resources and therefore are very involved
in many aspects of marine research. Along with summary information
about the institute and its activities, visitors to this page will
find links to most other important databases on the Net dealing
with ocean resources. The ORI site offers information in both
English and Japanese.
