Administered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA), the National Marine Fisheries Service
(NMFS) is responsible for overseeing and managing many commercial
fishery resources in U.S. territorial waters. According to reports
issued by this service, the oceans produce over $3.3 billion worth
of living products annually, 80 percent of which goes towards
human consumption. NMFS's prime directive is to protect and
preserve these valuable resources. Visitors to this site will find
a wealth of information about NMFS research and activities, online
newsletters, computer images of Southeastern U.S. marine fishes,
global sea surface temperature maps, financial assistance grants
for research and development projects in the fishing industry, and
