Linux: the free Unix clone, developed and maintained by Linus
Torvalds and a gaggle of hackers around the Internet. Linux was
written completely from scratch (using no "official"
Unix code) for 386- and 486-based PCs. The world of Linux is huge
and is one of the most important (and unsung) achievements in the
history of operating system development. The newsgroups are for
ongoing discussion; the FTP sites contain source code,
documentation and archives.
