Project Perseus
===============

A nonprofit effort headquartered at the Classics department of
Tufts University, Project Perseus is an attempt to create a
diverse digital library on ancient Greece. Perseus has collected
both online original texts and annotated English translations,
often with important historical commentaries. It provides several
different types of searches, including a unique function that will
search for Greek words the definitions of which contain a
designated English word. In addition to textual material, there
are also images of Greek art, coins, and artifacts, as well as a
sophisticated atlas of the Mediterranean region (Perseus Atlas
Project). The Perseus archive is being used as a central feature
of classics courses and is supported by a host of organizations,
such as the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment
for the Arts, Apple Computer, and the Annenberg Corporation for
Public Broadcasting.
